Psychotherapy is a way of talking through your problems in order to begin resolving them. You will need to take an active part in psychotherapy by working on and thinking about the things you talk about with me.
A number of benefits are available from participating in therapy. Therapists provide support, problem-solving skills, and coping strategies for many issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, and more. Your therapy benefits depend on your commitment to working on the processes we discuss in our sessions.
Your first visit allows me to obtain a general understanding of your situation in order to determine how I might best help you. I encourage you to ask questions because I want you to participate actively in planning your counseling.
Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. You can expect to discuss the current events happening in your life, your personal history relevant to your issue, and review progress from the previous therapy session.
It is important to understand that you will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process. Those people looking to change their tomorrow are ready to take the next step. You will see more results if you work beyond what we discuss in therapy sessions. I may suggest some things you can do outside of therapy to support your process like journaling, tracking your particular behaviors or making specific strides toward your goals.
Confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and a therapist. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust and it is important that you feel comfortable discussing your issues with me. As a therapist, I am required and happy to provide you with more information regarding your privacy and confidentiality. Individual and family sessions last 45-50 minutes and can be scheduled by contacting me via my contact information or by filling out the contact me form on this website.
